#1285 Web
Resources![]()
Thank you for visiting our Web Resources Site. We hope you find something of interest on your visit now or in the future. The Monterey Elks developed this page & collected these Links in the hopes that all lodges will have a better understanding of what is involved in the development of a Web Site. The development of this page is a hope that all Elks Lodge's will have a chance to see what is available in the way of resources for the Internet.
Web Site development is an art, and one needs to be skilled in all sorts of disciplines to pull off a cohesive, interesting, "bring them back" site. We could hire out our site development but that would hardly be a lot of fun and certainly not as educational as doing the work yourselves.
So, do you remember the old Wendy's commercial "Where's the BEEF ?" Our site started out as a means of understanding the technical aspects of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and similar behind-the-page stuff. While it was never intended to be widely published, we needed a means of working with various service providers to gain an understanding of the time, cost and technical demands of publishing and maintaining a site.
In a way, our site is the "Beef"?. The HTML source code is intended to be an example of the "best practice" although perhaps that doesn't exist. Right click on the text you're reading and select "View Source" to explore the world of HTML. You can find some pretty good references to HTML on our site.
The fast loading times of our pages is intended to set an example, along with parsimonious graphics, of how we value your time. The spelling and grammar are intended to be correct although neither has been proofed by a scholar. Overall, the style is our own, and we are proud of that. The one thing we tried to do was to give each page a somewhat different look, style and a personal feeling for the people we are trying to reach. In this I hope we have reached you. Though you may not agree with what is said, look at the style & content of each page of the site. If you pick up something that you may want to use for your site then we have made our point and for that we thank you.
The one item you must always remember is who is your primary audience, the people you are reaching for? Different Sites reach different people. DO NOT try to overpower your Site. "NOT" everyone has the most updated plug-in's or the most updated Browser. The key is yes keep your Site updated, BUT don't add so much that you lose people because of over powering your Site with graphics & plug-in's that can't be viewed by all. The one thing I have learned was KISS - "Keep it Simple Stupid", because as Web Designers we can get carried away & lose the people we are trying to reach.
By the way, if you're new to web development and the acronyms or other terms are unfamiliar to you, visit http://www.whatis.com/ for a wonderful example of the power of the internet
