American Night Speech

Being American comes with a price tag. The price is high but you get what you pay for.  Freedom was paid for with blood.  The cost of maintenance and upkeep is also high.  It must be paid by each true patriot.  Payments are made in thought, word and deed.  To our posterity we must teach the true tenets of Americanism.  These are the same tenets we as Elks adhere to.  Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity require that each of us make payments to honor those who enabled liberty and those who will preserve freedom in the future.  We shall always strive to leave America better than we found her.  We have so much. But we can never lose sight or become complacent.  Freedom is not an entitlement. It is an obligation.

Elks are fiercely and proudly obligated to America.  We stand for all that is truly good and just.  We remain steadfast in our obligation to teach our children about Volunteerism, Honesty, Integrity, Hard Work, Family Values, Strength of Purpose and Self Improvement.

America is an experiment. A free society is far from free.  It will cost us all something and we’ll get out what we put in.

Pony up my fellow Americans!  It’s worth it.  So raise a glass to America the Beautiful and all the best things she stands for.

God Bless You and God Bless America!
